Yes, at long last it’s time to start the SharpieBabbling again! It’s been a long time since the site was updated and that’s all sorted now. Cheers for the support from afar to continue the good work of pointing out the delinquent behaviour around the planet! Even the press are onto us! – see the photo
So… how should I sum up the years since the site was last updated?… got married, settled down, got a dog, got a yacht, got a permie job (as opposed to the last 17 years of contracting), became an Australian citizen (yes, now I get to go to jail in a warm climate!) and based myself in Brisbane then now Sydney. Times change, things move on. I kept most of that, only losing the married and dog bit. Great dog though.
Right, that’s enough of history… on on with the future…
We at Floppyflaps hope you like the new site. I figured it was time to let go of the technical aspect of programming html etc. and focus on the writing. The previous site became too unwieldy to maintain which mean too much time was spent on the back end and not enough on reporting back, which is the wrong way round. Still it’s good to know that many of those ideas we used back then have now been incorporated into what we know know as ‘Blogs’. Since the idea of floppyflaps was born and raised in an internet cafe in Kho Samui, Thailand, there has been a revolution in web tools like blogs, face book, MySpace etc. etc. Whilst we now use many of the tools available in those type of sites, Floppyflaps will never be just a blog, as that’s not what it’s about.
Before we move on, time to say hello and thanks to a few folk… Dave Hughes over in Liverpool in the UK, who was part of the company that registered the site – and has been fan from all those years ago. He did well to keep some professionalism when we first talked on the phone when I told him the name of the site! Cheers for chicken in recently Dave. It all helps to inspire more babble.
A huge thanks to our good chum, Tim Miller of Jethro consultants, who rewrote the site in a more maintainable form – he’s put up with many skype calls and online tuition sessions during this rewrite – so cheers fella. If you want a site like this (or other consultancy services) then check out his website for contact details and examples. The great thing about the web is that whilst we are a thousand km’s apart, it’s all possible.
There will be more competitions again, with some great Floppyflaps stuff to give away, like T shirts and errmm… More T Shirts! We hope to have a few gust articles from our ghost writers out there –and who knows, maybe we can convince The world famous Couttsey of “Couttsey Sez” – Melbourne’s answer to Sir Les Patterson, to pen some more life like it is Australian style.
So, on on with the show! (Why On On ? – it’s the call of the famous Hash House Harriers, so I am still so closely associated with and has served me well over the years. Check out those articles if you want to know more).
