Steve is a stray dog who has taken to hanging out in our friends' bar Faulty Towers in Thailand. Every night he lies right across the doorway, blocking it. He often gets stood on by some overweight Ex-pat, but always comes back for more punishment. Why Steve? Well, there's a fella called Steve who frequents Faulty's when he's here. He smells a little bit, get drunk and lies around in the way sleeping most of the time. So does Steve the dog.
This Steve has fleas. I mean he really has fleas. More than a whole circus. He smells a little too. And he's got a few scabs and wounds. Yes he's got a lovely little face and deserved more. Much more....
Consequently, we decided to start a collection for Steve, in the bar and called it, the "Clean Steve Campaign". Once we had enough money we decided that we'd take him up the poodle parlour for some grooming! The latest thing over here in Thailand is Toffee Licker dogs who rarely get to touch the ground as they're usually being carried round by the owner like some fashion accessory. We thought Steve needed the same treatment! There's a poodle parlour that provides that sort of treatment here - hair driers, bows in their hair - the lot! Definitely a must for every stray dawg! Smile Pet & Grooming has it all!
The collection soon gathered pace, with many of the fellas rather spend their money on the dog than bar girls! This was much to the mis-delight of the bar staff at Faulty's....."Why you take dog you not take care me etc. etc. bar girl drivel etc. etc....". To smooth things over I said if there was anything left over we'd give it to the staff. My good friend and co-owner of the bar, Arnt said that he would put Steve through the car wash & if there was any left over, then he'd do the same with the girls! Luckily my translation caught on faster and soon the bar staff figured this was a tip box, so hounded (sic) the clientele for "tip, tip!!". We'd soon collected enough for the grand event.
Well the day arrived and off we went to collect Steve. At this time of day he's normally found at the end of the Soi. We arrived there and........ No Steve! Clever little b*gger! He knew exactly what was going to happen. He had scarpered & was nowhere to be seen. Talk about the last laugh. Anyway, a few wanted posters and a couple of hours later, he shows up. Grab him! We managed to slip a lead on him, but he held onto the floor like a formula 1 tyre!
Eventually we prized him away from his sanctuary under the table at Faultys then it was a case of who was going to pick him up. You'll be pleased to know it's Arnt who now has Fleas!
Off we went to the poodle parlour with Steve in the back looking very confused by it all. He was happy enough to get some new smells as he doesn't get out of the Soi very often!
